WHAT IS AN AFFILIATE PROGRAM?

An affiliate program is a program that pays you commissions when you promote a merchant’s products or services.
Many people neglect affiliate marketing because they feel that it is a waste of time, and others don’t even know what it is or how it works. If you feel that it’s a waste  of time, I’m here to prove to you that affiliate marketing works.
Money earned from affiliate marketing is passive income. I call it passive because you are not exchanging your time for money. This is income you can earn at 2:00 am in the morning, when having fun with your friends or even when on vacation.
If you want to learn more about passive income, check out this post on the 17 Passive Income Ideas You Can Start Today.

QUICK TIPS TO HELP YOU FIND THE BEST AFFILIATE PROGRAMS

1. Make sure that they are related to your niche. Don’t just take affiliate links and slap them on your website or promote them to your audience because the commissions are high. Relevance is key. Make sure the offers can solve your visitor’s problems.
2. How great is their customer support? Are they reachable via email or Skype if need be? As you will notice below, I have listed iGain as the first affiliate network because their customer support is top-notch. My affiliate manager is always on top of things. And, whenever I send her an email, she responds right away. In short, join affiliate marketing programs that have good customer support
3. How are their commissions rates, pay periods and payment methods? A company like Bluehost is amazing when it comes to commissions rates. They pay $65 per sign up as you will see below and they pay on time via PayPal. Hostgator on the other hand, takes forever to pay. Do, put this into consideration before applying to a program.
4. A learning center. A good number of companies have training materials like tutorials and guides to help you promote the products or offers with ease.  One such company is Converkit. They have a FREE webinar that shows you how to promote their services. This is one of the reasons why I included ConvertKit on this list.
5. Read terms and conditions and be familiar with their rules and regulations. A company like Amazon is very strict when it comes to adhering to their rules. Failure to disclose that you are promoting their affiliate products and your account may be deactivated. And, we don’t want that. Do we?
6. Choose 5 or 10 best affiliate programs or networks to work with. Having a thousand programs on your website is not practical and definitely not professional. You need to be focused and choose a few offers that your audience can resonate with.

HOW TO MAKE FULL TIME INCOME FROM AFFILIATE MARKETING

HOW TO MAKE FULL TIME INCOME FROM AFFILIATE MARKETING

You turn affiliate sales into a full time income with the number of sales you make.  In 30 days, if you can capture 100 sales or leads at $25 commission, you’ve just earned $2,500.
This is just an example folks.
You can earn more or less and commissions vary according to merchant.
Here are some success tips to get you in your path to earning full time affiliate income:
Be authentic. Make honest recommendations. Don’t be driven by sales and don’t refer something you don’t stand by.  Building and maintaining reader trust is #1.
Add affiliate links to EVERY SINGLE POST. I love text links for this.  You can seamlessly add them in wherever you want.   Make it natural.
Use a variety of tools.  Don’t be afraid to experiment: text links, banners, etc.
Reviews and roundup posts are moneymakers.  Product reviews and round ups do amazingly well with affiliate links.  Do more of these kind of posts.

CREATING VALUABLE POSTS
Inserting your offers in your posts is what you’ll be doing but you wanna make sure you have quality posts first. Here are some tips to follow for A+ posts:
Long posts of 1000+ words with long tail keywords (Try Hittail)
A regular posting schedule.  This doesn’t have to be daily or 5 times a week, just a regular schedule that your readers can become accustomed to so they become regulars on your blog.
Lots of pics. Reading can get boring.  Lace your posts with tons of eye-catching photos, infographics, charts, graphs, and more.
Short paragraphs: This goes along with readability. 1, 2, and 3 sentence paragraphs do VERY WELL.  Try this experiment: write a post with all 1 sentence paragraphs and see how many pageviews you get.
Use bold, italics, and underlined: it adds depth and dimension to your post
Write like you talk: Its super refreshing to hear “real” articles in the language that the author uses. For example: wanna instead of want to.  I use this often.  It’s just how I talk.
Pinnable images: Aim for 1-3 pinnable images within your post.
Use share tools: like the ones from Sumome or Shareaholic, for example
Lastly, follow this formula:
If you're a baller on a budget, DON'T worry, I was too just a couple years back...
This is exactly why I started my affiliate marketing business using ONLY free traffic. Just a couple months after that I started making hundreds of dollars in commissions from the free traffic methods you're going to discover in the video.

Affiliate Marketing For Beginners: How To Make Your First Affiliate Sale (No Matter Your Niche)

Are you brand new to affiliate marketing?

Affiliate marketing is one of my favorite ways to create passive income from my blog and it works really well no matter your niche.
It’s also great for beginners because you are selling someone else’s product that already has an audience and a sales page set up for conversions.
You don’t have to create a product and you definitely don’t have to have a large audience to make money with affiliate marketing.
Of course, it’s not as easy as it often sounds and does take some strategy.
If you’re ready to start making money with your blog, I highly recommend affiliate marketing even if you are a beginner.
Today, I’m going to dive into how to actually make your first affiliate sale with your blog no matter your niche as well as how to promote your blog to drive quality traffic.
disclaimer: this post contains affiliate links which means I may receive a small commission if you purchase using that link at no extra cost to you. and if you do, I appreciate you!

1. Understanding Your Audience And Their Problem

Affiliate marketing is about solving a problem your audience has with a certain product or service that can make their life easier or simply give them the answer.
To make any kind of money blogging, you need to understand your audience.
Think about why someone would come to your blog.
It may not be as obvious at first but your audience is coming to you for something. So take a look at what your blog is and dig into what pain point your blog is focused on.
Are they looking for the best gifts for dog lovers for the upcoming holidays?
Or maybe they’re coming to your blog for advice on the best cribs and blankets to buy for a newborn.
Getting a clear understanding of why someone is coming to your blog and what they are looking to find once they get there can help you pick the correct affiliate products and programs once you want to start promoting.

2. Choose What Kind of Blog Post to Write

Not all blog posts are great for affiliate marketing and that’s fine.
Some posts you write will be geared towards getting people to your blog, especially as a beginner and others will be geared towards making money through affiliate sales.
I go into detail on the best blog posts for affiliate marketing in this post but here is an overview of them:
How to’s/Tutorials-  These types of posts are simply showing your audience how to do something meaning, they came to that post with a problem and they’re looking for a solution.
You are either showing your audience how to use the affiliate product or how to solve a problem using the affiliate product.
One of my highest converting “how to” posts is this one.

Why?

Because it starts off with a problem, (learning how to blog) and gives people a solution with the right products to use as well as valuable information and step-by-step instructions.
Reviews- Review posts are great for promoting online courses or a particular product because you are showing your audience the results you got from that product.
These work really well if you share your story, give a little background on the product and mention how it worked for you.
Gift Guides- With the holiday’s quickly approaching, gift guides are fantastic for affiliate marketing because all of the guesswork is done for your audience.
You compile a list of products that are perfect for someone specific and write about them.
This is great for your audience because they get all the information compiled into one post instead of having to search the internet for presents to buy.
List Posts/Round-Ups- List type posts are similar to gift guides but can be used for pretty much anything.
A roundup of the best free courses for new bloggers.
Or a list of the best jeans to wear for fall under $50.
Your affiliate links can easily be added to these lists posts with each product. Just make sure to write a small blurb under each product and not just a straight up list.
Read this post for a breakdown of how to write affiliate posts that actually convert.
BIG TIP: Only promote products you have personally used or done extensive research on. The point is to provide the best possible products to your audience and if you lose their trust, affiliate marketing will not work for you.

3. Get Eye Balls on Your Affiliate Post

Marketing is key when it comes to driving high-quality traffic to your blog and if you want to make your first affiliate sale that’s what you’re going to need.
I am all about Pinterest for marketing my blog posts because it drives 80% of my daily blog traffic. But, like everything else on the internet Pinterest marketing isn’t as easy as pinning all of your blog posts like a madman.
You need a strategy.
And the point isn’t to get the whole world on your posts, you only need the RIGHT people, which I show you exactly how to do in this eBook which you can check out right here.
The other thing about Pinterest is that you can even use Pinterest to make your affiliate sales whether you have a blog or not. I personally use this as another strategy to make money with affiliate marketing and it works every time.
You can grab the exact strategy to make money with Pinterest from this course by Elise of House of Brazen.

Create Multiple Pins for Pinterest

There are a few different ways I like to promote my blog posts and of course the first one is Pinterest.
For every single blog post, I create multiple pins to be pinned on Pinterest because you want to try out different wording to see what resonates with your audience so they click through to your blog.
I recommend pinning your different pins for the same posts scattered throughout the week using Tailwind.
This will help to reduce the look of spam, give yourself more chances for repins and click-throughs and make sure more of your audience sees your pins.

Add Links To Other Relevant Blog Post

Go through your other blog posts and add a link to your new blog post that has the affiliate links.
Of course, only do this where appropriate.
This can also help with your bounce rate and keeping people on your blog longer because they are looking at multiple posts per visit.
You can also add affiliate links to older posts where it’s appropriate and remember why your audience is visiting that post.

Utilize Social Media

Don’t forget to use your other social media platforms to promote your blog posts.
I like to share my blog posts to Twitter right after I’ve posted them, then I share to my other social media platforms throughout the week to ensure my post is being seen by my audience.
You can also utilize Facebook groups to help get your blog posts out there if you are a new blogger.
If you want more organic social shares on your blog posts (who doesn’t) check out this post.

Send It To Your Email List

Whether you write a monthly or weekly newsletter to your email list chances are you can easily slip in your latest blog post.
And it can be as simple as a blurb and then a link to your new blog post or you can create an entire mini-lesson in the email and then send it to your list.
If you haven’t started building an email list check out this post.

Serve Your Audience

The point of affiliate marketing and blogging is to serve your audience.
Give them a reason to trust you and to actually decide to purchase a product you promote.
Do that and you will be able to make your first affiliate sale and continue to make sales.
I heard a quote the other day that’s really helpful, “nobody who bought a drill wanted a drill, they wanted a hole. So if you want to sell drills, advertise information about making holes, not making drills”.
Basically just meaning, your audience has a problem such as wanting to make a hole, use your blog post to tell how to make a hole with a drill and make that drill an affiliate link.
You solved your audience’s problem with your affiliate link. That’s how you make consistent sales regardless of the size of your audience.
+ Affiliate marketing is one of the easiest and most effective ways to make money online.
In this video I do a full honest review of the 1K A Day Fast Track training. This is a six week  affiliate marketing training course. It is a Clickbank.com Product that shows students a simple, easy to master method of quickly building an email list and promoting products using simple 2 page landing pages to promote and sell products in any niche.

These are the steps from the training to follow to get the exact benefit;

2 High-Paying Affiliate Marketing Programs For Bloggers (Any Niche)

2 High-Paying Affiliate Marketing Programs for Bloggers (any niche)

This post contains affiliate links to products I trust and may receive a small commission when you purchase using these links at no extra cost to you.

The big question I get asked by new bloggers is information on finding easy high paying affiliate programs to get accepted in. I began this blog in March 2018 and in 2 months I have seen a steady growth in my affiliate income averaging $20-$40/day, which I am quite happy about, taking into account how new my blog still is.
Today, I am going to show you two programs I joined, within 2 weeks of starting this blog. So its fairly easy to get accepted to these programs, and you have a huge money-making potential. The best part is, these are affiliate programs for bloggers of any niche!
We are not going to talk about the Amazon affiliate program if that’s what you are thinking 🙂 I haven’t signed up with them yet, as I wasn’t sure if the Amazon program would suit my blog, mostly because of my niche. And also the chance of readers making a purchase within 24 hours of clicking my links seem close to impossible. Maybe there is an easier way to make a profit from the Amazon program, which I haven’t explored yet (and if I do, I will definitely share a post on it here).
But for now, lets head to the 2 programs that made me nearly $160 affiliate money within a couple months of joining.

There is a new bundle that is open to promote every month. Each of these bundles is worth over $1000, but your readers get a massive discount of 90-95% and you as an affiliate make a 40% commission! So when I sold the “Genius blogger toolkit” bundle which was worth $97 each, I received a commission of $38 each time!
I was late in the game with the Genius blogger toolkit, unfortunately. I didn’t think I would make a sale and neglected to promote it. I later decided to give it a try and started promoting it only 5 days before the bundle was to end.
Yet I made $77.80 in the 5 days I promoted it! Here are my earnings below. I only wish I had the confidence and promoted these weeks in advance. But that’s a lesson learned.

If you are interested in joining as an affiliate for the Ultimate bundles you can sign up. Its free to join and they accept new bloggers. You have nothing to lose and will never know until you try
Don’t worry if the bundles have products that are not in your niche. You can still promote them as direct affiliate links using Pinterest. You don’t need to be in the relevant niche to promote products on Pinterest. Here’s a step by step guide on how you can do this.
The next program is Shareasale
Shareasale is a huge affiliate platform holding thousands of brands and products. Once accepted into the Shareasale program you can request to join each of the individual companies they host.
Just to make it clear Shareasale is a – platform and,
you have within it – individual affiliate programs
I signed up for Shareasale which is free to join. Once I was accepted by Shareasale, could then request to join affiliate programs like Tailwind, Picmonkey, Grammarly. Requesting to join these affiliate programs is pretty easy, just a click of a button and you will hear from them as soon as you are accepted.

I made $81.48 from Shareasale in 2 months of signing up. Not too bad at all.

This is my Shareasale dashboard. If you look on the right you see a list of categories you can choose from. These are just some, there are thousands for you to choose from and the potential of you making an income is high!

Once you have been accepted, take a look at the categories and choose from ANY of the products you’d like to join.

Serve your audience better by pointing them to services or products that can solve their problem. Send them to your affiliate links.
That is the beauty of affiliate marketing. You can make money just by helping your readers find the right products and services for them.
Think of affiliate products that you can add to your top 5-10 blog posts.
For example, your blog post is about saving money. Insert an affiliate product that helps your readers reduce their budget. Or any affiliate offer that can help them save money in anyways.
After making one or two affiliate sales, you will surely work harder to increase your blog income.
To increase your affiliate sales, eventually, you have to increase your blog traffic and write  more awesome blog posts that are relevant to your top converting affiliate products

These are the ones resonating with your audience. These are the affiliate products and services that your readers love to spend money on to solve their problems.
Do not remove the other affiliate links that you have with your performing posts. That is not what I meant by focusing on your top 3 affiliate products.
What you need to do is to create more blog posts solving your reader's problem using your top affiliate products.
Say, for example, most of your affiliate commission is coming from the meal planning eBook.
What topic can you write about meal planning? Can you write more problem-solving posts about meal planning and link to that affiliate offer?
There you have it, friends. That is how to make affiliate sales using the blog traffic that you are already enjoying. That is how to increase your affiliate sales based on your result.

You constantly read content about how you can make money blogging using tactics such as affiliate marketing. But you don’t often hear what programs you should sign up for.
It can be frustrating as a beginner blogger to figure out what networks others use to successfully make an income; because let’s face it, there are a lot of options out there.
If you want to make money as a new or seasoned blogger, affiliate marketing is one of the best ways to start.

How can I get accepted to affiliate programs as a newblogger?

Before you even start thinking about which affiliate programs you may like to promote, please do yourself a favor and beef up your blog with several high-quality posts.
The general rule of thumb for any blog launch is to have about 10 long-form posts (~1,500-2,000 words) published before you try to attract readers to your site. This is because you want to,
a) appear established, rather than brand new to the blogging game
b) demonstrate that you are an expert in your niche
c) keep them around for as long as you can through multiple article options
For the same reasons, you should avoid applying to affiliate programs until you have a decent amount of quality content available.
When you apply to programs, representatives will review your website to determine if you would be a good fit for the brand. They can, and will, deny you if your content doesn’t mesh well with their product or service.
So, if you write about making and saving money, and want to apply to be an affiliate for an investment program like Acorns, you need to make sure that anyone visiting your site, whether a reader or a representative, will know off the cuff that you are a personal finance blogger – and that this particular brand would fit right in.
Before applying, you should also make sure that your blog has a disclosure page on which you disclose that you promote affiliate links from which you will receive a commission should someone make a purchase through them.
What affiliate merchants should I promote?
First and foremost, you should only promote products and services that you have used and love.

Why?

Because your readers aren’t idiots; they can read between the lines. If you promote something that you haven’t even used yourself, something you don’t really know much about, or something you only liked a little bit, you won’t have real, valuable things to say about it.
If you want to succeed with affiliate marketing, you need to be honest, ethical and transparent. This way, as your readers get to know you, they learn to trust your recommendations. The more they trust your recommendations, the more likely they will be to click and buy through you.
Secondly, you should only promote brands that are relevant to your niche. If you are a food blogger, does it make sense to link to your favorite hair straightener? If you’re a beauty blogger, does it make sense to promote your favorite kitchen utensils?
No and no.
Be relevant; your readers landed on your site for a reason. If someone came to you looking for recipes and you throw them a curve ball, they’re not going to stick around very long.
That said, there are several affiliate networks out there; some paying very generous commissions and others, not so much. Some brands have their own platforms, through which you work directly with them, while others are hosted by what is called an affiliate network or marketplace.
There are several great affiliate networks that will accept new bloggers. Many of them are home to some of your favorite brands and products and are waiting for writers like you to put their name out there via your content.
Some companies even work with multiple affiliate networks, but offer different commissions. For example, you may find a company like Survey Junkie on three or four different networks, but some of them pay out a higher commission than others.

So, what are some of the best ones to apply for?

Here are some of our favorite affiliate marketing networks to work with:

1. Amazon

Amazon is a go-to affiliate marketing program for almost any blogger. Pretty much everyone shops on Amazon, so there is ample opportunity to catch a potential shopper.
However, the only challenge with this program is that you have to perform in order to stay in the program. If you aren’t bringing in any sales, you risk losing your account.
As you’d guess, there are over a million products that you can advertise to your readers, so it’s really easy to find products that fit in well with your posts, whether they’re physical goods or digital.
The fun thing about Amazon’s program is that buyers don’t have to buy whatever you’re promoting for you to get a sale. All they have to do is click your link and buy anything from the website, and you get a cut. Sweet, right?
So if you link to a $15 book that you love and someone clicks and buys something crazy like a flat-screen TV, you still get some of that money.
Commission is percent-based (up to 10%!) with Amazon and varies by product category. You can see the current Associates Program Standard Fees Schedule to get an idea of what payouts may look like in your niche.

2. Flex Offers

Flex Offers is one of our very favorite affiliate networks.
It has a huge list of merchants to choose from and a vast variety of topics. Automotive, Business, Careers, Clothing and Accessories, Credit Cards, Digital Products, Health and Wellness, and Family, to name just a few.
With Flex Offers, you must apply to whichever merchant you wish you promote and wait to be approved before getting affiliate links. The timeline varies by merchant and can sometimes be a short wait, but it’s worth it due to the quality of merchants as well as all of the advertising creatives you’ll get access to with your links.
We particularly recommend Flex Offers to bloggers who write about Personal Finance and Frugal Living, as well as those in the Health and Wellness industry, as there are quite a few great options. However, there are thousands of merchants, so you’ll undoubtedly have no trouble finding something that fits your niche.
You can find big merchants like GNC, Asics, Nike, QuickBooks and much more.

3. Bluehost or Siteground

If you already have a blog, chances are you have already set up a hosting plan with one of these two providers. If you haven’t already started a blog and are just learning about affiliate marketing, start here.
Bluehost and Siteground are the two most used hosts amongst bloggers, for several reasons. They are affordable, the customer service is top-notch, and the overall hosting service is among the best.
If you use either of these, and you write about blogging, consider doing your host a favor by promoting them. Commissions are quite generous, so it’s worth it for you both!

4. Shareasale

Shareasale is a great network all-around, especially if you are just getting started with affiliate marketing. It’s easy to get signed up and they’re home to several great companies.
While the platform is fairly antiquated, we like how easy it is to see when we’ve earned a commission right on the primary dashboard, rather than having to dig into the reports to see what we earned, when and how much. This is sometimes more difficult with other networks when you want quick, at-a-glance reporting.
We particularly recommend Shareasale to bloggers in the fashion and beauty niches, as there are several big merchants such as Rent The Runway, Sally Beauty, Reebok, Warby Parker, and more.
If you’re a blogger, you can find awesome merchants like Tailwind, StudioPress and Picmonkey, which we’d definitely recommend if you want to share the resources that you use with your readers.
Several great Shareasale brands are not directly marketed on their merchant list so you may find that you have to do a quick Google search to find the application page if there is a particular brand you want to promote.

5. Impact

Impact is much like Flex Offers in that it has a great marketplace of merchants to choose from. Some bloggers report a bit more difficulty getting into programs with this network so we would recommend really establishing your blog content and online presence before applying since they can be selective.
It can also take a little bit longer to get approved for programs on Impact.
From travel/vacation programs like Hotwire and Enterprise, pet supplies like Bark Box, apparel and sporting goods brands like Adidas and Bowflex, and money programs like Swagbucks and Acorns… there really is something for everyone.

6. Digital Purchases (from other bloggers)

If you’ve ever purchased an ebook or online course from another blogger, chances are they have an affiliate program you can sign up with.
Affiliate programs from other bloggers almost always pay out MUCH more than networks do. The percent commission is often somewhere around 30% of the total purchase price. This is because the more you promote other bloggers’ products, the better they do, of course. Incentives go a long way!
We have taken several courses and read many ebooks by our peers and proudly promote the ones that we loved because they truly helped us in one way or another.
If you are just starting and haven’t yet purchased any digital resources, browse the websites of your peers (in the same niche) to see the types of products and services that they promote. If it’s a good fit for you, buy the program, learn from it, and if you love it, sign up to be an affiliate yourself!
However, we must reinforce that you should only join affiliate programs that will make sense to your readers.

7. Creative Market

We are obsessed with Creative Market, and we’re not afraid who knows it!
Creative Market is host to a ridiculous amount of custom fonts, graphics, website themes and more… all made and sold by independent creative talent. Shopping here is a great way to customize your own website, blog graphics and, Pinterest pins rather than using generic fonts, for example.
If you write about blogging, entrepreneurship, branding, graphic design, or anything that can be attributed to creativity, this is a great referral network!

9. Convertkit

Our favorite email service provider is Convertkit, which pays out a 30% recurring commission for every person that signs up through your affiliate links.
That means that if someone joins and remains on a monthly plan, you will get paid out every single month for as long as their plan is active.
Cha-ching!
This is a great resource to promote if you blog about blogging, digital marketing, business or entrepreneurship.

8. iGain

If you blog about personal finance or side hustles, iGain is a great place to sign up with Survey taking affiliate programs, such as Inbox Dollars and Harris Polls.
There are several programs in this area, offering both mobile and desktop options, as well as programs by country, such as US, UK and Canada.

10. Shopstyle Collective

Fashion and style blogger? Shopstyle Collective is made for you!
This platform is the perfect place for you to link to the EXACT products you are promoting, whether it is clothing, footwear or accessories.
You can even use it in conjunction with your Instagram; if you are heavily present on that platform, you might as well monetize!

11. Awin

Awin, formerly Affiliate Window, is a top earner for many bloggers.
This network is home to several big merchants, including but not limited to Etsy, Fiverr, ASOS and Swagbucks (which is also on other networks). There are several thousand merchants available, so it’s a great choice for beginners looking to get their feet wet!
The only caveat is that it isn’t free to join; there is a $5 admission fee, but if you’re bringing in sales, you’ll forget about that pretty quickly!
